Chapung Sebali – Luxury retreat in the Jungle

Chapung Sebali is an extraordinary place located in the lush rainforest above the Wos river valley. In addition to the jungle, it is surrounded by beautiful old rice fields. The hotel provides the famous Bali vibes and is located in a very tranquil area perfect for total relaxation, just a ten-minute drive from the center of Ubud.

The Hotel

Chapung Sebali resort is a 5 star luxury boutique hotel. It consists of several suites and villas built in the ancient Balinese architecture style influenced by a touch of modern Scandinavian design. Small, well maintained rice terraces separate the different parts of the hotel. It gives you the feeling you are in the middle of a small Balinese village.

We stayed at one of the villas with a private pool. The villas of Chapung Sebali are surrounded by walls and luscious greenery to provide one or two couple travellers with a totally secluded feeling. The villas have a private pool as well as a spacious and airy design. One morning, we chose to have a floating breakfast in our private pool after visiting the Tegalalang rice terraces.

The hotel provides complimentary shuttle service to Ubud center several times a day. If you like to be more free, you can ask the front desk and they will help you to arrange a motorbike.

Jungle Fish

Jungle Fish is the main restaurant at Chapung Sebali. It is located below the villas deeper in the valley but above the huge infinity pool. The menu consists of an Indonesian and International selection of dishes. The food is just sensational and lifts the resort even to a higher level. In addition, the staff at the restaurant and at Chapung Sebali, is very attentive and takes note of the smallest details. As an example, they asked us about our allergies and took care that each dish had a replacement with another incredient to still be able to enjoy the full menu.

Our highlights were the following dishes:

  • The best chocolate fondant that we have ever had
  • Tuna Gazpacho
  • Barramundi with Vegetables and mashed potatoes
  • The best non spicy Indonesian curry we have ever had
  • Smoothie Bowl, Avocado Toast and Poached Egg for breakfast

Just below the restaurant, there is the beautiful big infinity pool of Chapung Sebali that is hanging just above the drop down to the valley. This guarantees spectacular views when relaxing in the water at the edge of the pool. It has a very nice shallow area with pillows to unwind for hours in the water. Furthermore, hanging beds and relaxation areas designed as caves surround the pool. This area is open to day visitors for an entrance of IDR 350,000 including a food and beverages credit of IDR 200,000.

Chapung Sebali

Another highlight of this hotel is the Blind Pig Lounge. The Bar serves amazing cocktails and snacks. Often they have live jazz and classical music. A very stylish room furnished with velvet couches and candlelight ambience.

The Spa

Likewise, the spa at Chapung Sebali is another highlight of the resort. Separated from the pool area, it has a small pond and a beautiful view over the valley from the treatment rooms. Furthermore, they have the most motivating gym we have been to. Made mainly out of timber with a pond in the front, you do your workout in the middle of the nature.

We had a super relaxing 90 minutes Chapung massage which was so relaxing that we dozed away a few times. The staff is very skilled and make you feel totally comfortable. The massage included a foot bath, a full body massage and herbal tea as well as snacks before and after the massage.

In conclusion, Chapung Sebali is the best hotel you can imagine to unwind and enjoy all the beautiful nature in the Ubud area. The staff is very accommodating, the food sensational and the resort very beautifully designed.
