Sudamala Resort Seraya – The Ultimate Private Island Retreat

Sudamala Resort Seraya is a private island paradise a half an hour boat ride from Labuan Bajo. It has a beautiful white sanded beach, an own reef, cosy beach bungalows and a spectacular sunset bar. Sudamala Seraya is the definition of a tropical luxury at its finest.

The Arrival

When arriving at the airport of Labuan Bajo, you realize immediately that you arrived in paradise. By airplane, you fly over beautiful small islands, coral reefs, green (or brown depending on the time of the year) hills and blue water. On top of that, the airport is a small regional airstrip surrounded by lush hills.

Sudamala Resort Seraya welcomed us directly in the arrivals hall. Afterwards, the staff brought us down to the harbour of Labuan Bajo where a boat awaited us for the transfer to the island. The boat ride is a nice trip along the coast surrounding the northern tip of the western side of Flores (the main island). We arrived an hour before sunset and the beauty of the place took our breath.

The Island and the Accommodation

The accommodations of Sudamala Resort Seraya are luxury beach bungalows with the reef right in the front of the door. The interior design reminded us of Ibiza with its unique vibes. The highlight though is the bathroom which is open air and made of bamboo. My favourite moment was showering after sunset with the lights switched off. This showed the magnificent sky with millions of stars including the Milky Way. Each bungalow is equipped with all needed amenities, including air-conditioner, water heater, mini fridge, mosquitoes net and a wooden-deck front that overlooks the pristine ocean water.

Sudamala Resort Seraya has a beautiful long, white beach with its own coral reef that stretches 100m into the sea. The corals are in good condition and the resort makes sure that it is protected. Therefore, there is a high number of fishes in many different colours. Additionally, there are many goats on the island and if you’re lucky, you can spot some baby goats playing with their siblings. Sudamala Resort Seraya does efforts to protect the environment, such as the avoidance of plastic bottles, refillable shampoos, etc.

Seraya Restaurant is located right at the main island’s beach. The restaurant menu offers both Asian and western specialities. Every dinner starts with a complentary entry while you wait for your orders. We recommend to have dinner by the beach. In the night, it is romantically lit up by lanterns and you can enjoy a freshly caught fish.

The Activities at Sudamala Resort Seraya

Additional to enjoying the beauty of the beach, Sudamala Resort Seraya also offers water sports such as snorkelling, stand up paddling, diving and kayaking. Another highlight of the resort is the sunset bar which is a small platform on top of a hill behind the bungalows. The staff mixes cocktails while you sit on one of the chairs to observe the (mostly) spectacular sunset.
